If you walked up to someone on the street and asked them to point out where Kashmir was located on a map, chances are they would look at you strangely and not be able to point it out. If you asked them facts about Kashmir they would probably look at you oddly and ask you where that was located. Here is your chance to be able to know about this Indian state called Kashmir.
Here is a quick fact sheet about Kashmir that will give you the basic information needed about this region of India.
Kashmir is mainly considered a state of India. However, it is really divided into three different sections that are ruled by three separate countries. The northwestern most part is ruled by Pakistan, northeastern part is ruled by China and the central and south part is ruled by India.
There are over 11 million people living in the whole area of Kashmir. Over 7.25 million of those people live in the Indian ruled section of the country. 3.6 million people live in the Pakistan controlled area and at the moment there are no statistical records of how many people might be living in the China ruled area.
The official religion of the area of Kashmir will depend upon what part of Kashmir you are in. In the Kashmir Valley and Pakistan ruled areas the religion that is followed is that of Muslim. However, in the Jammu area Hindu is widely followed and in Ladkha area the religion that is followed is that of Buddhism.
Some of the favorite dishes that are served in the Kashmir area include dum aloo which is a potato dish with lots of spices used for the sauce, lamb or mutton, cottage cheese, spiced meatballs and vegetables. Alcohol is not usually permitted anywhere in the Kashmir area and can be hard to find.
